WorldBeat Cultural Center will be celebrating its 39th Annual Celebration with 5 of the 7 days of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is an African American Holiday celebrated from the 26th of December to the 1st of January. This year, December 26th, marks the 51st anniversary of the Kwanzaa holiday (1966-2016) created by Dr. Maulana Karenga to celebrate and reaffirm family, community, and culture.
In addition each day will feature Ceremonial candle lighting and libation with live Drumming Kwanzaa, Poetry reading by Johnnierenee Nia Nelson, Karamu – the traditional feast ( FREE vegetarian African American soul food), “Kwanzaa Celebration Exhibition” will remain open for tours.

Award-winning writer Johnnierenee Nia Nelson has written five books of Kwanzaa poetry. Her first, “A Quest for Kwanzaa”, published in 1988, was heralded as the authoritative genesis of Kwanzaa literature. “Classic Kwanzaa Poems: New and Selected” is her latest work. Ms. Nelson serves as the World Beat Center’s poet-in-residence.
